Many of us don’t think about the value of eyes until our sight is permanently impaired. So it’s not too late to start taking care of your vision.
Here I suggest few ways to keep your eyes healthy and beautiful.
Take nutritious foods:
Select foods rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals like citrus fruits, green vegetables, whole grains, and meat, which can improve your vision and protect eyes.
Stop smoking :
Generally, people who smoke are more likely to develop dry eyes, macular degeneration, and optic nerve damage. It also may increase the risk for developing plaque in the arteries which results in heart attack and damages the retina of eyes.
Watch for eye problems:
Swelling, tenderness, redness are common signs of major eye problems. Applying cold or warm decreases and using over-the-counter drops can provide relief to your eyes. If symptoms still persist, contact your doctor soon.
Wear protective glasses:
When spending most of the time outdoors, participating in sports activities or working on projects involving chemicals or debris, wear protective eyewear to decrease the risk of getting damage to your eyes.
The sun’s ultraviolet rays are very powerful and they can harm your eyes by causing cancer of the eyelid. So protect your eyes with sunglasses which blocks 90 to 100 percent of UV-A and UV-B rays from direct sunlight.
Prefer safety glasses made of polycarbonate impact-resistant plastic to avoid eye injuries, which frequently occur at home. Doctors also prefer anyone engaged in sports activities to wear protective eyewear to eyes.
Blink and take breaks:
Usually, people watch screens several hours daily on their computer or mobile phone. Several researchers report that people blink nearly 50 percent less while using these electronic devices.
To avoid this, reduce glare from lights, which can cause eyestrain. Try a screen filter on your screen. View the computer screens about 25 inches away from the face.
Keep eyes clean:
Remember to wash hands before inserting or removing your contact lenses. Everyday dry and clean the storage case, and use only approved chemical products to rinse lenses.
Avoid eye contamination by tossing eye makeup which is older than three months.
But whenever if you develop an eye infection, contact your eye doctor immediately as soon as possible.
